Fork trick is based on the co-operative relationship between designer & client in order to achieve the optimal solution within a project. To achieve this, designers at times must resort to a variety of little tricks. Fork Trick aims to aid with this by indicating the path of choice with a little 'trick-based' reasoning on the puzzle of logic:
One man is in front of two doors, but only one is the right one for him. One door always lies, while the other always tells the truth. Problem is he doesn't know which one is which. One door leads to certain death, while the other leads to riches beyond his wildest dreams, only thing is he only has one question to ask. The correct approach to this problem is asking one of the doors, "If I asked the other door which exit leads safely home, what would he say?" ... wait for the answer then use the OTHER exit.
As within any problem, designers must find strategic ways to drive clients towards the correct path in order to create the most beneficial outcomes for both the audience, designer as well as the client during this co-operative design process.
